Orchestras

FYO "First Year Orchestra"

Are you interested in learning a string instrument? Do you want to be a part of a vibrant program where you get to learn music on either the violin, viola, cello or double bass alongside your friends? Go on super fun field trips? Then this class is for you! Most 6th grade and first year players start with little to no prior musical knowledge or experience. This class is designed to teach you how to hold and play an orchestral instrument, read music, and perform together as an orchestra. Beginner students are placed into instrument specific classes (based on instrument selection), and learn fundamental technique of string playing.

Concert Orchestra

The Concert Orchestra is the Junior varsity/Intermediate orchestra. Students need to have at least 1 year of string playing. This orchestra is designed for the advancing student wanting to improve and strengthen fundamental skills on their instrument, along with learning to perform together as a string orchestra. The Concert Orchestra participates in all school concerts, Region 18 events, UIL evaluation, and the Solo & Ensemble contest. New students who want to skip the beginner class "FYO", must schedule an audition with Mr. Romero, as this class acceptance is BY AUDITION ONLY.

Chamber Orchestra

The Chamber Orchestra serves and represents General Marshall MS as the Varsity/Advanced orchestra in all major events. This class is for dedicated musicians grades 7-8th seeking a challenging and rewarding ensemble experience. Students in the Chamber orchestra perform rigorous repertoire, pushing students to refine their technique, musicality, and ensemble skills. The Chamber Orchestra participates in all school concerts, Region 18 events, UIL evaluation, and the Solo & Ensemble contest. Students need to have at least 1 year of string playing, and membership to this orchestra is BY AUDITION ONLY.
