Mr. Romero is the Director of Orchestra at General Marshall Middle School in Austin, TX. Mr. Romero holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, with an emphasis in cello and strings from Texas State University. While at Texas State, Mr. Romero performed with the Texas State Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Jacob Harrison, studied chamber music and performed with the Cordel Quartet. In addition, Mr. Romero was a student-teacher in the TXST String Project where he taught private lessons on all 4 instruments, along with teaching group classes to students. Teaching in the String Project is where Mr. Romero found his passion for string education, laying the foundation to becoming an orchestra director.
At General Marshall, Mr. Romero has created a culture of excellence and inclusion within the orchestra program. Students in the program have performed in numerous concerts, participated in district events such as Fall Festival for Strings “String Fest”, All-City Orchestra, Solo & Ensemble Contest, and the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading evaluation. Several students in the program have auditioned and earned chairs in the TMEA Region-18 Middle School Orchestras, Austin Youth Orchestra (AYO), and received superior ratings in the Solo & Ensemble contest - representing the Ram Orchestra at the highest levels.
Mr. Romero is excited to continue building an orchestra program of excellence at GMMS, in which students are challenged through inclusive musical performance. In his free time, Mr. Romero enjoys performing on cello in orchestras around the Central Texas Area, staying active by exercising, trying new foods in Austin, and spending time with friends and family.
